That this House welcomes and supports plans to celebrate the 23rd annual Volunteers' Week from 1st to 7th June; acknowledges and celebrates the fact that three-quarters of the population is involved in volunteering as a fundamental part of life in the United Kingdom, underpinning civil society; recognises that volunteers make a significant contribution to active citizenship, democratic participation and community well-being; thanks Volunteering England, Volunteer Development Scotland, the Volunteer Development Agency, Northern Ireland, and Wales Council for Voluntary Action for their work in promoting volunteering and in organising Volunteers' Week; and supports the links between Parliament and the third sector which are being strengthened by the Volunteers' Week VIP Challenge, in which many hon. Members have agreed to participate.
