CONDUCT OF THE PRIME MINISTER
EDM #453
Tabled 12 February 1991
1990-91 Session
That this House deplores the false impression given by the Prime Minister on Thursday 7th February, when he failed to make clear that the enhanced severe weather payments scheme would apply for one or two weeks only; notes that over 90 per cent. of pensioners will be ineligible and that even those who are entitled automatically to the money will still be forced to make written claims, or lose out; suggests that the Prime Minister should think twice before encouraging false hopes among pensioners for the sake of cheap and easy publicity; and calls for a decent pension increase for all senior citizens to avoid the need for this divisive and deceptive scheme.
