Motion text

That this House hopes that Aung San Suu Kyi celebrated a happy 62nd birthday on 19th June; notes that on that day she had spent a total of eleven years and 238 days in detention; expresses concern that she is allowed no visitors and that her telephone has been cut off and her post intercepted; observes that, despite repeated calls for her release by the United Nations, the Government, the Association of South-East Asian Nations and the European Union, there is currently no prospect of her being released; and calls on the Prime Minister to make democratic reform in Burma a foreign policy priority.
