That this House salutes the life of Sir Richard Knowles, including his service as Lord Mayor of Birmingham and the courageous leadership he showed as Leader of Birmingham City Council between 1984 and 1993 in transforming Birmingham's standing as a world-class European city; notes that the regeneration of the city centre, the International Convention Centre and Symphony Hall are all lasting tributes to his vision; applauds his unceasing commitment to the ideals of the Co-operative and Labour movement as a national organiser and as a tireless campaigner for social justice and local democracy; expresses its sadness at his loss on 17th February 2008 at the age of 90 years; and conveys its condolences to his wife, Anne, to his son, Bill, and to all his family.
