40th ANNIVERSARY OF DEATH OF SENATOR ROBERT KENNEDY

EDM (Early Day Motion) 1351: tabled on 21 April 2008

Tabled in the 2007-08 session.

Motion text

That this House notes with sadness the 40th anniversary of the death of Senator Robert Kennedy, assassinated in Los Angeles on 5th/6th June 1968 following his victory in the California and South Dakota primary elections; agrees with his brother, Senator Edward Kennedy, that he should be remembered `simply as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it'; applauds his life because he gave his strength for those who were weak, gave his voice for those who had no special interest to speak for them and always remembered those who were forgotten; and believes that the tragedy of his death is best summed up by his friend the composer John Stewart who said `when a chill wind takes the sky, we should remember the years he gave us hope, for they can never die'.

The first 6 Members who have signed to support the motion are the sponsors. The primary sponsor is generally the person who tabled the motion and has responsibility for it. The date shown is when the Member signed the motion.
