Motion text

That this House notes that Antarctica is the only part of the world that is almost free of human impact; that it is of crucial importance for scientific research such as biology, geology, geophysics and climatology, including global warming; that it is a unique and fragile ecosystem which is threatened by mineral and hydrocarbon prospecting and the possibility of full-scale mining under the convention on the Regulation of Antarctic Mineral Resource Activities; recognises that there are international proposals to ban all mining in Antarctica and to declare the continent a Nature Reserve-Land of Science; and calls on the Government to support these international proposals.
