MILE END HOSPITAL
EDM #99
Tabled 20 November 1990
1990-91 Session
That this House believes that there should be a public inquiry into the proposal to close the Accident and Emergency Department at Mile End Hospital, the result of which would be to stretch Tower Hamlets' only remaining casualty department at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, where the waiting time sometimes reaches five hours already, and will also have a deleterious effect on the remaining services at Mile End; and notes that this would cause great hardship to the many people in Tower Hamlets, who have neither cars nor telephone, and that the increasing daytime working population expected to come into the dockland area and the rapidly rising birthrate will cause a single accident and emergency unit at Whitechapel and the provision for inpatients on that site to become critically overloaded.
