Motion text

That this House supports Nacro's Change the Record Campaign to give reformed offenders a fair chance of finding work, by reforming the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and decreasing the time for offences to become spent, by reviewing the scope of the Criminal Records Bureau checks to prevent unlawful and unnecessary checks so that employers can have access to a dedicated and conscientious workforce of reformed offenders who have put their pasts behind them, and to maintain a proportionate checking system so that children, vulnerable adults and employers are appropriately safeguarded and that society is saved the expense of needlessly condemning reformed offenders to a life of unemployment.
