Motion text

That this House is extremely disappointed to hear of the recent BBC attacks on The Freedom Association and Norris McWhirter CBE; notes that on the Alan Davies show on BBC Radio 5, the Freedom Association was recently libelled as being `a very, very right-wing kind of sub-BNP, slightly posher version of the BNP', a statement which is completely untrue; further notes that the BBC 5 Live radio show went on to vilify the late Norris McWhirter CBE, likening him to one of Hitler's brown shirts, despite his record as a passionate campaigner for civil liberties and a defender of freedom, including his service in the Royal Navy in the Second World War; finally notes that Norris McWhirter CBE was a former star of the BBC TV show, Record Breakers, and gave a huge amount of public service over his life; and therefore calls on the BBC to apologise immediately for this damaging and unjustified attack.
