CONDUCT OF THE PRIME MINISTER AT QUESTION TIME
EDM #703
Tabled 18 February 1992
1991-92 Session
That this House deplores the attempt by the Prime Minster to mislead the House at Question Time on Tuesday 18th February over statements made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer about rising unemployment and the recession; recalls that the Chancellor is recorded in the Official Report, column 413, 16th May 1991, as saying 'Rising unemployment and the recession have been the price we have had to pay to get inflation down. That price is well worth paying'; notes that when the Leader of the Opposition asked the Prime Minister, Official Report, column 1094, 16th January, whether 'he believes that 2.5 million unemployed is a price worth paying?' that the Prime Minister did not then deny that those words had been used; and therefore calls upon the Prime Minister to make an immediate apology to the House for his misleading remarks.
