Motion text

That this House expresses its support for and solidarity with Occupy LSX, the group of people occupying the steps of St Paul'sCathedral and the occupations in Edinburgh and elsewhere taking non-violent direct action to highlight the impact of the current economic crisis; welcomes its initial statement which describes the present economic system as unsustainable, undemocratic and unjust; calls on our community to refuse to pay for the bankers' crisis; rejects cuts in public services as either necessary or inevitable; demands an end to global tax injustice and a democratic system that represents corporations instead of people; supports the strike on 30 November 2011 and student action on 9 November 2011 and actions to defend our health services, welfare, education and employment and to stop wars and arms dealing; and further calls for structural change towards global equality with the world's resources going towards caring for people and the planet, not the military, corporate profits or the rich.
