Motion text

That this House notes the Birmingham University Guild of Students is running disciplinary proceedings against Edward Bauer, the elected Sabbatical Vice President (Education) of the Guild, on five points; further notes that two of those points relate to the unforseeable and unexpected consequences of him protesting against Government policies at the Liberal Democrat Conference in Birmingham; further notes that one of the points relates to him writing an article published by The Guardian; recognises that these disciplinary proceedings act as a constraint on the right to protest and the freedom of speech of a democratically-elected student representative; and calls for these points relating to the right to protest and freedom of speech to be dropped from the disciplinary proceedings conducted by the Birmingham University Guild of Students.
