That this House is deeply concerned at the prospect of war with Iran; is appalled at the naval military build-up in the Persian Gulf and the danger that this may spark a conflict with enormous consequences and loss of life; calls for renewed dialogue with Iran, an end to overt and covert military threats and support for a nuclear-free Middle East as called for by the 2010 Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference; and welcomes the Stop the War demonstration outside the US Embassy on 28 January 2012 as an opportunity for ordinary people to express their thirst for peace.

DIALOGUE WITH IRAN (Amendment 1)
leave out from `Iran' to end and add `notes that Iran is on the threshold of having a nuclear bomb, which would threaten the Gulf states and Israel; further notes that Iran has threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz, causing disruption in the world supply of oil; further notes that Iran is the Soviet Union of the Middle East, supporting and funding terrorism and repressing dissent at home; and urges that NATO does not rule out military action as a last resort if Iran refuses to stop building a nuclear bomb.'.
