Motion text

That this House recognises that tuberculosis (TB) kills nearly 3,800 people each day and that the disease is the leading cause of death of HIV-infected people in the developing world; welcomes the leading role the Government has been playing in response to the epidemic and the positive role it has to play influencing other governments; notes the considerable progress that has been made in recent years with improved focus on research and development into new tools and decreases in TB prevalance in the UK and globally; acknowledges the critical role of the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria in addressing TB; further notes that the Global Fund is estimated to have saved 4.1 million lives since its formation in 2002; and calls on the Government to continue to support research and development into new tools and to step up the fight to control TB and TB/HIV co-infection bilaterally and multilaterally.
