Motion text

That this House notes that inguinal hernia repair is the most common surgical procedure undertaken in the UK, with over 100,000 performed each year; further notes that if untreated hernias do not heal, they cause pain and discomfort and often prevent patients from working; recognises that there are reports in parts of the UK that state procedures have been rationed to save money in the short term leading to worse outcomes and longer term costs for the NHS; and calls for patient outcomes for inguinal hernias to be included in the Atlas of Variation which will help improve transparency and incentivise better outcomes.
