Suggested amendment

leave out from '1960' to end and add 'but in such a review to take into account the large numbers of privately trained chiropodists and physiotherapists upon whom so many rely for treatment; and to ensure that those with private qualifications are not for that reason penalised or unduly restricted by any resultant legislation.'.

Original motion text

That this House calls upon the Secretary of State for Health to undertake an immediate review of the Professions Supplementary to Medicine Act 1960, which remains in urgent need of a complete overhaul and to bring it into line with the legislation governing other health professions enabling patients readily to identify practitioners registered under the Act, by giving effective protection to the titles used by practitioners so registered.
