Motion text

That this House notes that 11 March 2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Harold Wilson; further notes that Harold Wilson won four general elections, kept the UK out of Vietnam but in NATO and successfully delivered a referendum on the EU; considers that Mr Wilson introduced vast swathes of reforms to the UK's educational and social institutions and deserves to be recognised as one of the 20th Century's great prime ministers; expresses its dismay that Mr Wilson, unlike other great prime ministers, is not honoured with a statue in Westminster; and calls for a full-length statue to be commissioned on the parliamentary estate for next year as part of the centenary celebrations as an appropriate tribute to his life and legacy.
