Motion text

That this House welcomes the unveiling of a new public Christmas tree on Maryhill Road, Glasgow, outside the Burgh Halls; notes that the Christmas tree has been established as the result of an idea and fundraising campaign by local resident, Jackie Lennox, who was inspired by the memory of her sister, Tracy, who passed away last year; understands that Tracy was a remarkable lady who lived through adversity with spina bifida, was severely disabled with kyphoscoliosis and was in a wheelchair from birth; further understands that the Christmas tree, known as Tracy's Tree, will be a focal point for members of the wider community to remember loved ones who have passed away; recognises that personalised baubles placed on the tree each year will allow people to celebrate and commemorate the life of a loved one; and hopes that the tree will provide a focal point for the community and build civic pride.
