Motion text

That this House congratulates St Mark's Primary School in Hamilton, headteacher Caroline Campbell and all pupils and staff for their Mile Walk to school on 30 November 2015; notes that, as the walk took place on Saint Andrew's Day, many involved wore tartan in appreciation of Scotland's patron saint; commends the efforts of all staff and parents at St Mark's who have shown great determination and willingness in the promotion of healthy living; recognises that walking short and safe routes to school can improve the physical and mental health of children, parents and carers, and instils a greater sense of independence and self-confidence in children; further recognises the vital role that health and wellbeing plays in education, and that such initiatives are effective ways of teaching children road safety; and fully encourages other schools to consider sponsored walks to school.
