Motion text

That this House notes the concerns of grassroots campaigners about the potential impact of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) on the ability of hon. Members and EU sovereign member states to make decisions in the public interest; in particular notes concerns surrounding the investor state dispute settlement mechanism, environmental standards and the future of public healthcare; welcomes statements made by the European Commission that TTIP will not compel member states to open public healthcare services to competition from private providers; believes that the status of TTIP negotiations is of paramount importance to a proper democratic debate during the EU referendum; further believes that the TTIP negotiation process is not sufficiently transparent; and therefore calls on the Government to clarify the ratification process for any settlement, ensure TTIP negotiations are fully scrutinised by this House, and, to alleviate public concerns during the EU referendum, commit to ensuring that the retention of sovereignty for decisions concerning the NHS will be a red line for future TTIP negotiations.
