Motion text

That this House notes with concern that Ethiopia is facing its worst drought in 50 years, with over 100,000 people displaced in this drought alone, and in the worst-hit areas, up to 90 per cent of livestock dead; further notes that the number of food insecure people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance has increased from 2.9 million in January 2015 to over 10 million; notes that the struggles presented by the largest refugee population in Africa, by droughts, floods, localised conflicts and scarcity of resources are many; and welcomes the work of the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department to help address the most urgent needs such as animal fodder, water, nutrition and food.
