Motion text

That this House deplores the latest United Kingdom nuclear warhead test exploded at the nuclear test site in Nevada on 26th November; expresses its deepest concern that, whilst the governments of the Union of Sovereign States, the former USSR, Kazakhstan and Russia have agreed to implement a nuclear moratorium, and noting the the Democratic Party in the United States Congress has supported a matching moratorium on nuclear tests, Her Majesty's Government persists in affronting the considered opinion of millions of people worldwide who want to see the completion of a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty; decries the failure of Her Majesty's Government to respond co-operatively to the appeal made to the Prime Minister in October by the chief of the Shoshone tribe, the historical residents of the Nevada test site areas, that the United Kingdom halt any further tests on its land and thus stop despoliation of sacred areas; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to now halt all nuclear tests and to pay full compensation to the Shoshone people for the radioactive contamination caused by each British nuclear warhead exploded in Nevada since tests began.
