Motion text

That this House notes that the International Day of UN Peacekeepers was first observed on 29 May 2003, the date in 1948 on which the first UN Peacekeeping mission began operations; understands that there are now 104,733 uniformed UN peacekeeping troops from 123 countries working alongside 13,000 police and thousands of staff; applauds the work of all of those involved in UN Peacekeeping Missions, and recognises their significant contributions to peacekeeping and post-conflict stabilisation worldwide; remembers the 3,466 peacekeepers from 123 nations who have lost their lives in the service of peace; and pays tribute to all of the men and women who have served and continue to serve in UN peacekeeping operations.
