Motion text

That this House congratulates and acknowledges the immense contribution made by 23 year old Yazidi woman, Ms. Nadia Murad Basee Taha, in raising awareness of the plight of the victims of people trafficking, particularly women and girls across the world; commends that Nadia's work is to be recognised on 16 September 2016, the International Day of Peace, when she will be appointed a UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking at a ceremony at the UN in New York; recalls Nadia's bravery during her visit to Westminster in February 2016 when she told MPs and Peers how she, along with thousands of other Yazidi women, was held in sexual enslavement in Mosul as a prisoner of Daesh, before escaping and deciding to dedicate her life to making the world aware of what was happening to her people; and notes that as a tireless campaigner for victims of pepole trafficking, Nadia briefed in 2015 the UN Security Council, has been nominated by the Iraqi government for the Nobel Peace Prize as was named as one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of 2016.
