That this House notes 2016's Gas Safety Week beginning on 19 September; further notes that this awareness week, which is organised by the Gas Safe Register, aims to highlight the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning; notes that 5,123 organisations supported Gas Safety Week 2015; recognises that every year in the UK, more than 200 people are hospitalised with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, which leads to around 50 deaths; highlights that by ensuring all gas appliances are checked regularly by a gas safe registered installer, and fitting an audible carbon monoxide alarm, simple steps can be taken to save lives; commends the Scottish Government for bringing in regulations in 2015 to compel landlords to provide a carbon monoxide detector with an integrated long life battery; urges the Government to follow the Scottish Government's lead to legislate for this in England; and hopes that the campaign is successful in promoting gas safety to all stakeholders.
