Motion text

That this House awaits an appropriate response from the Government to the genocide carried out by Daesh against the Yazidi people, who had been disarmed and were then abandoned by the Kurdish Regional Government; appreciates that this has left the community without a means of defence; recognises the need for direct discussions with the Yazidi leader, Commander Haydar Shesho; calls on the Kurdish Regional Government to end its persecution of Yazidis, to end its blockade on aid to the thousands of Yazidi families living in dire conditions on Sinjar Mountain and to abandon its efforts to bring the Yazidi Sinjar region under its direct control; and further calls on the Government to afford the most severely affected victims of the genocide opportunities to access care and asylum in the UK through the introduction of programmes similar to those for Syrian refugees, drawing on experience from the programme to help Yazidi women victims of Daesh organised by the German state of Baden-Württemberg.
