That this House congratulates Samuel Irvine Rae of Tayport, North-East Fife on his appointment to the rank of Chevalier in the Ordre national de la Legion d'honneur at the age of 92; notes Mr Rae was involved in the Normandy landings at Gold Beach on 7 June 1944; marks his impressive commitment to military service in the Royal Engineers' map reproduction unit whose task was to gather information from the French resistance, trusted locals and military reconnaissance and use that information to redraw the maps of the ever-changing front line and deliver them to the front line units by truck, motor bike or on foot; further notes President Hollande announced that France would award the Legion d'honneur to the living veterans involved in the campaign to liberate France in 1944; hopes that the awarding of this honour reminds our community of the bravery, sacrifice and service displayed by Mr Rae and his fellow veterans; and sends its thanks and warmest wishes to him and his family as they enjoy the high regard in which Mr Rae is held, not only in North-East Fife, but also by the French Republic.
