Motion text
That this House notes the vital contribution that EU citizens living in the UK make to our communities and to the UK economy; welcomes confirmation from Government that it will remove comprehensive sickness insurance (CSI) checks for those who are self-sufficient or studying and the genuine and effective work test under their proposals for settled status; is concerned that these rules continue to be applied inconsistently under the permanent residency system; highlights that this system has created great uncertainty for EU citizens who have made Britain their home; urges the Government therefore to also remove CSI checks and the genuine and effective work test from the permanent residency application procedure, including from the application form and guidance notes; and is convinced that this would create a simple process not only for the EU citizens but also for Home Office caseworkers.
