KILLIECRANKIE BATTLEFIELD SITE

EDM (Early Day Motion) 940: tabled on 20 February 2018

Tabled in the 2017-19 session.

This motion has been signed by 24 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

Motion text

That this House believes that the UK's historic battlefield sites should be preserved and celebrated as part of national culture; recognises the importance and significance of the battlefield site at Killiecrankie and its iconic place in Scotland's history; notes that this was the first battle of the Jacobite wars in which the Jacobite forces secured a stunning victory at heavy cost, including the death of their leader, Bonnie Dundee; further notes it was the first battle in which the plug bayonet was deployed and was the first battle in which the hand grenade was used on British soil; is greatly concerned at the proposed encroachment on the battlefield site by the dualling of the A9 between Perth and Inverness; and calls on Transport Scotland to look once again at the planning of this route.
