Motion text

That this House recognises the proud Welsh tradition of the Eisteddfod, a grand community festival and competition of art, poetry, music, and theatre that dates back to the twelfth century; admires the members of the Welsh diaspora who have brought this cultural jewel to countries all around the world and hold their own versions of the Eisteddfod to this day; highlights the Eisteddfodau which have thrived for over 150 years in Argentina, Australia, America, South Africa, and other communities with Welsh links around the world; acknowledges that even now new festivals are being founded by enterprising young people in places as far as Portland, Oregon in the finest tradition of the Eisteddfod; and praises the people of the Welsh diaspora and artists around the world for spreading and maintaining this dynamic custom, and enriching as they do so the cultural experience of people of all ages all over the globe.
