Motion text

That this House welcomes the launch of the Wyndford Heritage Project during March 2018 in Maryhill Burgh Hall marking the beginning of a year-long project to preserve the heritage of Maryhill Barracks and the Wyndford Estate; recognises that the project will help capture precious lived experiences of the past, gather stories and memories about regiments and soldiers, and educate the community on a valued but disappearing part of Glasgow's history; acknowledges the important work of the Heritage Lottery Fund for bringing this project to life with a £55,000 grant administered in partnership with Cube Housing Association; encourages the local community to participate in the many public events, which include archaeological digs at the site, a new museum collection about the barracks, a new play written and performed by local schoolchildren and an interactive Minecraft-inspired game that recreates the site at various points in history; commends the community partnerships which have enabled this project to take place between organisations such as the Royal Highland Fusiliers, Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust, North United Communities, Immersive Minds and local residents; and wishes the project every success in preserving a lasting legacy for future generations.
