Motion text
That this House is seriously disappointed and concerned at plans by Scotland's leading commercial broadcaster to shed 59 jobs across the STV and STV2 channels, with the latter closing altogether; notes that the plans involve ending the flagship STV News Tonight Scottish and international news programme, which will lead to a massive reduction in the breadth and depth of news coverage that viewers in Scotland currently enjoy; believes that the news comes as a devastating blow to the staff who work tirelessly to provide some of the best news and current affairs programmes in Scotland; supports the efforts of the National Union of Journalists to work with STV management to try to reduce the number of redundancies required; and calls for every effort to be made to avoid compulsory redundancies.
