Motion text
That this House is concerned with the ongoing suppression of freedom of speech in Egypt, with the crackdown on access to social media, the curtailment of democratic rights and the detention of human rights defender, Amal Fathy, for voicing her experiences of sexual harassment; notes ongoing failings by the Egyptian Government to protect women's rights in the areas of sexual misconduct and gender equality; and calls on the Government to limit its co-operation with the Egyptian Government until its commitment to human rights norms can be demonstrated, including freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and the immediate release of Amal Fathy to her husband and three-year old child and with a guarantee that she may live her life without fear of prosecution.
