Motion text
That this House congratulates the England chess team on its recent success at the Chess Olympiad and welcomes the staging of the World Chess Championship in London, beginning in November 2018; recognises the social and intellectual benefits, for all children across the social spectrum, of learning chess at a young age, as well as the relatively low costs of teaching it in schools; notes that while chess currently receives no financial support from the Government, most European countries encourage the teaching of chess in schools; and calls on the Government to ensure that all children are given the opportunity to learn chess at primary school within existing resources.
