That this House welcomes the announcement by the University of Glasgow reaffirming its pledge to work in the interests of Glasgow and Scotland by making the economy and quality of life in the community top priorities; understands that the university has joined 30 other institutions in committing to produce a Civic University Agreement in partnership with local government and other major institutions; notes that this follows an agreement with Glasgow City Council to use the institution’s academic expertise to inform public policy in the city; recognises the wealth of academic knowledge that will be used to help Glasgow and Scotland take action on social, cultural and economic issues; appreciates that the university has been an integral part of Glasgow since 1451 delivering world-class education; thanks the university for its commitment to playing an active role in the public life of Glasgow and Scotland; and wishes the university all the best for the future.
