Motion text

That this House congratulates Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) on its work in the Highlands and Islands helping to keep the lights on and ensuring that vulnerable customers are supported in the event of a power cut; recognises that while the north of Scotland network is resilient 99 per cent of the time, extreme weather can result in damage that leads to network faults; welcomes recent investment of more than £1.4million in electricity substations on the Isle of Skye, which provide vital support for electricity users in a remote part of the country; notes that for some being without electricity even for a short time can be distressing and difficult, particularly for those who rely on specialist electrical medical equipment, elderly people, isolated people, disabled people and people with very young children in their household; joins SSEN in calling for those who may need extra support during a power cut to register for SSEN’s free Priority Services Register by calling 0800 294 3259 or by visiting https://www.ssen.co.uk/PriorityServicesRegister/.
