BOOST FOR WELLHOUSE FROM THE SCOTTISH LAND FUND

Motion text

That this House congratulates Connect Community Trust on successfully securing a £114,732 award from the Scottish Land Fund which will be used to purchase and refurbish the HubSports building in the Wellhouse area of Easterhouse in Glasgow East constituency; acknowledges that the Trust has been leasing the building from Glasgow City Council for more than a decade, delivering essential services to the local community; notes that the Scottish Land Fund is funded by the Scottish Government, delivered in partnership with the Big Lottery Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and aims to support community ownership of land and land assets across Scotland; commends Connect Community Trust on its continued work in the East end of Glasgow since its formation in September 2003, which has witnessed it support more than 10,000 individuals, including with employment, training and qualifications, and improved the local area with an improved physical environment, improved health and wellbeing, reduced anti-social behaviour, and community empowerment; further notes that the HubSports building is a crucial local resource which provides a variety of sports activities for young people, adults and people with disabilities including tae-kwon do, gymnastics, dance and basketball; hopes that this funding will help to secure this essential resource for the foreseeable future; and wishes the board and all involved with Connect Community Trust all the best for the future.
