Motion text

That this House celebrates 80 years since the Cosmo cinema, the first purpose-built art house cinema outside London, was built; appreciates the unique architecture of the building, which was designed in a mix of Art Deco and Art Moderne styles by James McKissack; notes that the cinema has been home to the beloved Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) for 35 years; appreciates the contribution to Glasgow's rich cultural heritage that the cinema has made over the years, particularly with regards to world cinema and foreign language films; further appreciates the dedication of the Cosmo and the GFT in showing films beyond the mainstream; and hopes that the cinema on Rose street will remain one of Glasgow's most loved treasures for years to come.
