Motion text

That this House congratulates the St Francis Heritage in the Community project on its work in the Gorbals; notes that its multi-phase project is centred around the beautiful St Francis centre, a rare survivor of the slum clearances programme of the 1950s; appreciates that the project worked with Blackfriars Primary School and St Francis Primary School along with the community on a creative and diverse range of programmes celebrating the heritage and character of the Gorbals, as well as the restoration of key elements of the St Francis Centre; further appreciates the evocative reminiscence performance, booklet and postcards produced by the Gorbalites; notes that Glasgow Life has been supporting an exciting array of programmes based in or around the St Francis Centre over the past year; understands that the work was showcased in Gorbals Through The Lens, which included films commissioned by Glasgow Life from filmmaker Morwenna Grace Kearsley, who interviewed members of the community of all ages and backgrounds about their experiences of community projects in the Gorbals; and further congratulates all involved on an inspiring and successful project.
