Motion text

That this House congratulates Maisie and Vanessa Dury of St Andrews and the team at Brain Tumour Research on the charity’s 10th anniversary of raising awareness that 16,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year; notes that in the last decade its work has helped to increase national investment in research into brain tumours as well as increase its own fundraising to around £4 million a year; allowed the voice of more patients and families to be heard as well as improving access to support and information for those affected; recognises that the charity has achieved an all-time high of awareness of the disease in the media, social media and among parliamentarians and has transformed research into brain tumours in the UK with pioneering research being carried out at its four dedicated Centres of Excellence; and further notes that the new Find a Cure campaign, launched in the Houses of Parliament on 30 April 2019, sets out the charity’s plans to grow capacity for research into brain tumours, build research infrastructure, accelerate treatment options for patients and increase national investment to £35 million a year by 2025.
