Motion text
That this House notes recent reports indicating that there are personal savings accounts in the UK containing approximately £170 billion that pay zero per cent interest; and calls on banks and building societies operating such accounts radically to alter their approach, so that customers are offered straightforward ways to switch to accounts that pay more competitive rates, which would generate between £2 billion and £3 billion annually in extra spending power for the economy.
