Tabled in the 2017-19 session.

This motion has been signed by 36 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

Motion text

That this House notes the sensational International Cricket Council World Cup Final on 14 July 2019; congratulates the England men’s cricket team on joining their female counterparts in winning the Cricket World Cup; believes that it is imperative that this inspirational success is used to encourage a new generation of boys and girls to take up cricket; further notes that the only way in which to ensure mass participation in cricket is for the Government to reassess its education funding settlements to ensure that schools have the funds and equipment to make cricket truly accessible for all; recognises that thanks to the decision of Sky TV to allow a free-to-air simulcast in partnership with Channel 4, the World Cup was seen by millions of viewers, especially children, for the first time; and further believes that future World Cup matches, and especially knock-out stage matches featuring England, should be protected by Government legislation to guarantee free-to-air access at future tournaments.
