LAUNCH OF THE ANY DISABILITY SYMBOL

Motion text

That this House welcomes the launch of the Any Disability Symbol in Parliament on 4 June 2019; endorses the use of new accessible signage that articulates that disabilities can be both visible and invisible; notes with concern the number of cases where people with invisible disabilities have been discriminated against for attempting to use accessible facilities; further notes with concern the difficulty those with neurological conditions and dementia have when attempting to use accessible facilities; congratulates the work of Lucy Richards, Studio LR and the Scottish charity Life Changes Trust in creating and funding the new 'Any Disability' symbol; notes the tireless campaigning of Grace Warnock regarding invisible disability awareness; welcomes Grace Warnock's role as the ambassador for this new signage; calls on the Government to change existing signage within public buildings and replace it using the Any Disability Symbol; and further calls on the Government to encourage businesses to also adopt the Any Disability Symbol on their existing signage.
