Motion text

That this House recognises the importance of making communities as dementia-friendly as possible to make life easier for people with dementia, their families and carers; notes the efforts being made by organisations including Fife Council and the University of St Andrews and, in particular the vital research carried out by Dr Maggie Ellis, Fellow in Dementia Care, as well as local businesses and people including local campaigners Lesley Haines, Vanessa Dury and their family; commends the Dementia Friendly St Andrews and Dementia Friendly Communities initiatives for encouraging people to undertake training enabling them to learn more about how to make spaces welcoming and suitable for people with dementia, increase awareness of best practice in assisting people with dementia so they can continue to be involved in their communities and change attitudes to dementia; and hopes that all hon. Members and their staff will follow the lead of North East Fife constituency office in taking the opportunity to undertake the dementia friendly training.
