Motion text
That this House supports Drinkaware's Drink Free Days campaign to help people to reduce levels of harmful drinking and reduce alcohol harm; notes that the Government acknowledges in its recent Prevention Green Paper that harm caused by problem drinking is rising and that over 10 million people are drinking above the official chief Medical Officer's guidelines and putting themselves at risk; recognises that the Drink Free Days campaign supports harmful drinkers to help them cut down and reduce alcohol harm and by encouraging drinkers to take a number of days off from drinking each week as a way of reducing their health risks from alcohol; acknowledges that the more alcohol people drink the greater their risk of developing a number of serious potentially life limiting health conditions, such as high blood pressure and heart disease, as well as seven types of cancer and that regular drinking also increases the amount of calories consumed and can contribute to weight gain and obesity.
