That this House congratulates Doors Open Days Scotland as it celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2019; recognises that Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates architecture, culture, heritage and the built environment, offering free access to over a thousand venues across the country throughout September every year; acknowledges that Doors Open Days began in 1990 as part of the European City of Culture celebrations in the city of Glasgow, where the festival continues to be organised by the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, welcoming over 89,000 visitors in the past five years; expresses its support for Scotland’s built heritage, new and old, being made accessible for free to people living in and visiting the country; appreciates that Doors Open Days are coordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust and is part of European Heritage Days alongside Scottish Archaeology Month, coordinated by Archaeology Scotland, both of which are supported by Historic Environment Scotland; extends its gratitude to Doors Open Days’ many volunteers and area coordinators who create and manage local programmes and work for a variety of local authorities, civic trusts and heritage organisations; and wishes everyone involved with the festival many more years of success.
