Motion text

That this House recognises the achievements of George Parsonage, Glasgow's River man, who has retired this month after 40 years of saving lives in the Clyde; understands that George took over this responsibility from his father in 1979 at the helm of the Humane Society, which has been saving lives in Glasgow since 1790; appreciates that George has personally rescued over 1500 people from drowning in the river, and has doubtlessly saved countless more lives through his work on water safety awareness and prevention measures; notes that George has also dedicated a great deal of time to recovering bodies from the river and that this work has made a huge difference to grieving families; acknowledges the proud heritage of the Humane Society at Glasgow Green and wishes them all the best in future endeavours in increasing safety in and around the Clyde.
