Big Ben chiming on the day of Brexit

EDM (Early Day Motion) 2: tabled on 19 December 2019

Tabled in the 2019-21 session.

This motion has been signed by 55 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

Motion text

That this House notes the ongoing refurbishment works on the Elizabeth Tower and the fact that during this period Big Ben currently only chimes for Remembrance Sunday and New Year's Eve; further notes that the United Kingdom will now leave the European Union at 11.00pm GMT on 31 January 2020; and calls upon Mr Speaker and the House Authorities to make arrangements to ensure that Big Ben will chime at 11.00pm GMT that evening, to provide an appropriate national focus for this truly historic event.
