FUTURE OF WATER SERVICES IN NORTHERN IRELAND (No.2)
EDM #2361
Tabled 21 July 1993
1992-93 Session
That this House reaffirms its total and unequivocal opposition to the privatisation of water services in Northern Ireland; notes that this opposition is reflected across the community, and across the political front and is based on the failure of water privatisation in England and Wales and exists because privatisation would be contrary to the future needs of the people in Northern Ireland whether in the industrial, agricultural or domestic sphere; believes furthermore that the intentions of the Government are undemocratic, misleading and secretive and expose a whole range of matters which are contrary to the public good and totally at variance with normal public financial procedures and safeguards; and calls on the Government to allow the people of Northern Ireland to have their say to initiate a referendum on this issue and also to abandon all plans for the privatisation of Northern Ireland water services.
