at end add 'and, in congratulating Sunderland,trusts that similar recognition will be given to armagh, the Ecclesiastical Capital of Ireland which was also a contender for city status.'.

Original motion text

That this House is pleased that the former Borough of Sunderland has been succeeded by the new City of Sunderland; notes that almost one year after handing the letters patent to representatives of the new city, Her Majesty the Queen visited Sunderland to unveil its new coat of arms; welcomes the fact that Sunderland is now the newest city; believes that the designation of city will give great pleasure to the many citizens of Sunderland; and looks forward to the progressive city council to build on this unique and new beginning.
